With women power being the prominent part of the 75th Republic Day parade, the Delhi Police’s all-women marching contingent bagged the best marching contingent trophy this year.
The CRPF women contingent, on the other hand has emerged as the best in the popular choice category.
The trophies for the same will be conferred by the Defence Minister Rajnath Singh at the RR Camp in Delhi Cantonment on Tuesday.
In a post on platform ‘X’ Delhi Police said that, ” Our hearts swell with pride to share that #DelhiPolice’s Womwn Contingent has been adjudged the ‘Best Marching Contingent’ among the CAPF and other auxiliary Forces in Judges Choice Category.”
Fo the first time in history, the all women contingent of the Delhi Police along with its all women pipe band participated in the R- Day parade at Kartavya Path.
The contingent of the national capital’s police women contingent was led by Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police North district Shweta K Sugathan IPS.
Ms Sugathan had also led the Delhi Police contingent in Republic Day parade-2023 and is the second women IPS
officer after Kiran Bedi to lead the contingent.
The selection of women staff for the R- Day parade began in April 2023.
Chief drill Instructor of the contingent was Inspector Bishan Das Thakur, who has been training parade contingents for the last 36 years.
Meanwhile, with a strong display of the women power of the nation all women tri- services contingent of the armed forces also took part in the parade along with all women contingents from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs).
The women officers from the Army also led the specialised weapon systems from the artillery regiment and the first time showcased MRSAM ( Medium Range Surface to Air Missile System) in the Republic day parade 2024.
A total of 15 women pilots of the Indian Air force also took part in the parade who were part of the fly- pasts performed by the IAF this time.
